Psoriasis May Be a Sign of Dangerous Metabolic Issues.
A 2025 report in EMJ Dermatology highlights growing evidence that severe psoriasis is strongly linked to metabolic syndrome—a cluster of conditions like high blood pressure, high blood sugar, obesity, and unhealthy blood fats. The relationship goes both ways: metabolic health problems can worsen psoriasis, and intense psoriasis can drive metabolic dysfunction.
Patients with more severe skin symptoms often show higher rates of obesity, insulin resistance, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and fatty liver disease. Chronic inflammation appears to be the common thread connecting these conditions. A meta-analysis also confirms that individuals with psoriasis have significantly higher prevalence of metabolic syndrome compared to the general population.
Seeing your psoriasis flare? Don’t just treat the rash—check your waistline, blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol. Managing those metabolic markers could also help calm your skin.
