Pesticide Exposure May Be Undermining Your Heart Health.
A 2025 analysis in Frontiers in Nutrition by He, Wang & Li used data from 12,432 U.S. adults to link specific pesticide chemicals—including the herbicide 2,4-D, organophosphates, and glyphosate—to poorer overall cardiovascular health.
Key findings reveal that higher levels of 2,4-D are tied to worse BMI and diet scores, and overall cardiovascular health declines even at low exposure. Organophosphate metabolites showed complex associations—sometimes linked to slightly better diet/smoking scores—while glyphosate contributed most to cardiovascular risk scores. Importantly, inflammation markers (CRP and SII) partly explained how pesticide exposure may harm the heart.
Reduce your pesticide burden: choose organic produce, wash fruits and veggies thoroughly, and rotate crops. Your heart—and your future—may depend on it.
