Ketogenic Diets Slash Inflammation & Boost Cancer Recovery.

A 2025 meta-analysis in Frontiers in Nutrition examined multiple trials comparing ketogenic diets (very low-carb, high-fat) with standard diets in cancer patients. The ketogenic group experienced significantly reduced fat mass and visceral fat, lower blood glucose and insulin, and improvements in LDL, total cholesterol, as well as fatigue and insomnia. They also saw increases in ketone levels and better emotional and social well-being—suggesting both physical and quality-of-life benefits.

Ketogenic diets appeared to reduce inflammation, especially when maintained for over 12 weeks. C-reactive protein—a key inflammation marker—dropped more substantially in those following strict KD protocols (80–85% fat). Higher ketone levels (β-hydroxybutyrate) were tied to improved metabolic and emotional outcomes.

If you’re undergoing cancer treatment, a medically supervised ketogenic diet could reduce body fat, blood sugar, inflammation, and improve your energy and mood. Talk with your oncology team to see if this metabolic approach might fit your plan.
