Safflower Flavonoids Cut Heart Damage by Up to 50%.
In 2025, Fajian Ren and a team from Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine reviewed how flavonoids from safflower, like chalcones and quercetin, work in the body. They looked at many studies on these compounds, found in safflower petals used in traditional medicine for blood flow and pain relief.
The findings showed safflower flavonoids protect the heart by improving blood flow and reducing clots, fight harmful oxidation to slow aging, help brain health by easing Alzheimer's symptoms, battle cancer cells, calm swelling and boost immunity, and aid women's issues like period pain. Doses like 100-200 mg/kg in animals cut heart damage by 30-50%.
Try safflower tea or supplements daily for better heart and immune health, but check with a doctor first.
