Long-Duration Stretching Promotes Muscle Growth.
A 2022 meta-analysis in the Journal of Science in Sport and Exercise reviewed 16 animal studies and found that stretching for at least 15 minutes daily led to significant increases in muscle mass, cross-sectional area, fiber size, and even fiber number. These findings suggest that prolonged stretching can induce both hypertrophy and hyperplasia by generating mechanical tension that stimulates muscle protein synthesis.
While these results are based on animal models, they indicate that incorporating long-duration stretching into your routine may support muscle development.
Add extended stretching sessions to your fitness regimen to potentially enhance muscle growth.
